Classification of European Recreational Waterways

The report 'Classification of European Recreational Waterways' was prepared by ECORYS Nederland BV for the VNE partner SRN (Stichting Recreatietoervaart Nederland), and is being produced as a planning tool for various EU-supported projects like 'Canal Link' (INTERREG IIIB NSR), 'Crosscut' (INTERREG IIIB NWE) and 'VNE' (INTERREG IIIC West). Furthermore Euromapping provided all the maps and adapted them to the report layout.

Besides on the 'World Canals' website (supported by Euromapping) an overview of recreational inland waterways throughout Europe is given. Maps produced by Euromapping show existing infrastructure and planned missing connections. Further on by clicking on selected areas of the Europe map these can be scaled up (zoomed) in two steps.

The report structure is as follows:-
The story behind the report is given in chapter 1. In chapter 2 an overview is provided of the European waterways. Chapters 3 to 13 present the results per country. The appendices 1 to 3 contain the contact list, the Euromapping legend, the extended ECMT classification and the replies to the questionnaire.
